Electronics Recycling and Reuse Change
Beginning January 1st, 2012, the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act landfill ban for certain electronic devices will take effect.

Electronic items such as LCD monitors, computers and printers are some of the most common items that will no longer be allowed in regular trash. See link for a full list of acceptable/non-acceptable items. Prairieland can schedule an at-home or commercial collection service for a fee, or you may bring them to our on-site drop-off located at 21988 N. Pepper Road in Lake Barrington at no charge. Call for more information at 847-381-9300 or see the E-Scrap link on this site.

food scraps NEW for 2013! Between April 1 and November 1 we'll collect vegetative food scraps in biodegradable bags at our on-site drop-off, 21988 N. Pepper Road in Lake Barrington.

Athletic shoes! We now collect and recycle unwearable athletic shoes at our Lake Barrington drop-off facility. And we collect other styles of used — but wearable — shoes and boots and donate them to charity.

Green Environmental Tips!
Compost your Veggies: Place your vegetable food waste into your yard wast can (no meat, oil or dairy products please).

Skip Disposables: At your next party or outdoor BBQ, rent extra utensils and plates or purchase extras at a thrift shop.

Take a Field Trip: Take usable items you no longer need to a goodwill store or list them on a web-based list service like www.craigslist.org and www.freecycle.org.
